Driving the energy transition together

A solar folding roof consists of much more than solar modules, steel and cables. One of the key mechanical components of HELIOFLEX is the carriage assembly, which enables the solar module arrays to move. The carriage assemblies are put together at the ARGO workshop in Chur, where numerous individual parts are assembled into a complete unit.

The collaboration between dhp and ARGO combines technological innovation with social responsibility. ARGO provides employment and meaningful work opportunities for people requiring additional support while also carrying out an important step in the value chain of the solar folding roof.

“For us, it is essential to work with partners who are reliable and share our quality standards. When we can also strengthen regional value creation and make a positive social contribution, it makes the collaboration particularly valuable,” says Lars Färber, COO of dhp Technology.

The operating principle of the carriage assembly is similar to that used in cable car systems. It moves along the supporting cables, allowing the individual solar module arrays to be extended and retracted in a controlled manner.

Each carriage assembly consists of numerous individual components, including support rollers, ball bearings, sleeves and metal plates. At ARGO, these parts are assembled into a complete unit according to defined specifications.

“Projects like these are particularly valuable to us because they combine meaningful work with a tangible industrial product. Our employees can see how their work is used and that they are contributing to an innovative project supporting the energy transition,” explains Thomas Bruder, Operations Manager at the ARGO workshops.

The completed carriage assemblies are subsequently installed in HELIOFLEX solar folding roofs above wastewater treatment plants and parking areas. There, they help make existing spaces available for solar power generation without permanently restricting their original use.

Innovation through collaboration

HELIOFLEX brings together expertise from a wide range of disciplines. dhp develops and implements the technology, specialised companies manufacture the required components, and ARGO is responsible for assembling this particular unit.

This collaboration makes it possible to draw on the right expertise at every stage. Development, manufacturing and assembly come together to create a reliable overall system.

“The collaboration with dhp clearly demonstrates that social and economic objectives do not have to be mutually exclusive. We can offer our employees challenging and meaningful tasks while creating genuine added value for an innovative company from our region,” says Toni Ferati, Sales Manager at the ARGO Foundation.

ARGO demonstrates how industrial collaboration can deliver not only technical and economic benefits but also social value.

HELIOFLEX in use across European infrastructure projects

HELIOFLEX is built in Graubünden and is already being used in projects across Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Germany and Austria. At the same time, its production is supported by an international network of specialised partners.

ARGO is part of this network and an example of dhp's strong regional roots. Although HELIOFLEX is deployed internationally and benefits from the expertise of partners across borders, Graubünden remains the place where the technology is developed, brought together and built.

In this way, HELIOFLEX combines strong regional roots with international expertise, demonstrating how specialised contributions can come together to create a shared solution for the energy transition.
