Digitalization as the key to an efficient PV solution

The demand for the HORIZON solar folding roof is growing rapidly. To keep pace with this momentum, dhp Technology had to rethink not only production scaling but also the way the systems are controlled.

The Challenge

Previous control systems worked but were complex to customize. Each customer project required extensive programming by third-party providers, resulting in longer delivery times, higher costs, and dependency on external services.

The key questions were:

  • How can control be simplified?

  • How can reliance on external programmers be reduced?

  • How can commissioning be accelerated?

The Solution: EcoStruxure Automation Expert

Together with Schneider Electric, dhp Technology found the answer. The EcoStruxure Automation Expert platform decouples software from hardware, ensuring maximum flexibility. Control applications can run independently of the hardware, configurations are easier, and repeatability is ensured.

To implement the system successfully, Schneider Electric brought in Swiss system integrator Baffy AG, who developed expertise in the platform and transferred this know-how to dhp Technology.

Today, dhp Technology’s technicians can independently commission and maintain solar roof automation systems.

Results at a Glance

  • 50% faster configuration and commissioning

  • Reduced dependency on third parties

  • Higher reliability through modular, repeatable setups

  • Smart features, such as an integrated weather station that automatically retracts the roof in case of hail or snowfall

Voices from Practice

“With EcoStruxure Automation Expert, we are using a solution that gives us both manufacturer independence and reduced complexity. The ability to configure rather than custom-program control software is a real game-changer,” explains Gian Andri Diem, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of dhp Technology.

Looking Ahead

The collaboration with Schneider Electric and Baffy is only the beginning. Plans are already underway to integrate solar roofs with EV charging stations – another step towards a more sustainable energy future.
